someone in the stream said they wanted to try colouring it so here’s the fullsize for them and anyone else that wants to give it a shot.
Around April of last year my friend, Jamie Vickers, encouraged Ben Li and I to apply to animate on Masaaki Yuasa’s “Space Dandy” episode. Yuasa-san was apparently looking for international animators and posted about it on his Facebook wall. We turned in our reels and promptly got the gig.
I decided to only take on four shots just to feel it out and to make sure I got it all in on time.
The Carpaccio animation and shadow passes weren’t used in the final cut, but I decided to include them for this post to show what was turned in and approved. The rest of the drawings I did came through though! Very exciting to see the final animation all cleaned up, colored and cut together.
Yuasa-san was very open to us using Flash to animate our shots. The production took the final keys (genga’s), printed them out, retraced onto paper and inbetweened those drawings. It’s a pretty wild pipeline, but it totally worked. I am grateful to have experienced working under one of my most favorite directors, Masaaki Yuasa-san.
If granted the opportunity I would like to do more animations for Yuasa-san and other overseas productions in the future. For now I will continue working on my personal project that I aim to get done before the end of the year.

Ruby Dansen by Yoh Yoshinari
I remembered that I already knew that Yoh Yoshinari was a total westaboo and a fan of Ruby Gloom because he did this animation.
RED FUCKIN’ ALERT
Yoh Yoshinari is one of the main animators/directors at Trigger and whose work includes Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, Little Witch Academia, Kill La Kill, Panty & Stocking, and FLCL. He is all around a huge inspiration for me because his animation is always drop dead gorgeous and epic…
AND HE JUST DREW THIS. HE’S A GLOOM FAN. I CANNOT CONTAIN MYSELF.
Seems Nikki is still upset about the Swapnote fiasco…
so I found this gem of a frame while playing MK8
I posted it on miiverse and got a very appropriate comment:
Finished up a new commission. Sawyer from Cat’s Don’t Dance this time around. I sure don’t draw her as often as I should. When ever I do, I’m reminded how adorable she is. The over all shape of her is also quite easy to draw. Very pleased with how this turned out. I tried something different with the lighting and I think it worked out quite well. Of course, doing a messy pie version helps keep this high in my books as well. ^_^
Seriously tho, regarding this post from tumblr user acnana that talks about having an Animal Crossing game where your town goes into a spirit world and you have “cute bat and ghost villagers you can interact with.”
This cute game (that already exists) has basically all of that AND MORE.
You are an aspiring wizard going to magic school in this game. You have a dorm that you can decorate and you can fish and collect bugs and decorate the garden in your dorm building and you can actually cast spells and stuff! PLUS once a month your town enters ~mystery time~ where you can have special magic lessons and catch exclusive bugs and fish and the day after, a guest will come to your town and you get to solve a quest.
You can also date the villagers!
It’s comparative to AC:WW and unfortunately we will probably never get to see any of its sequels - like the hit game Magician’s Quest: Town of Magic which has a shopping mall as well as new spells and villagers plus you can also open up your own store.
Here’s pics from that one:
Basically I just REEEEALLY wish the new one would be localized!
Don’t worry. WE’RE GETTING FANTASY LIFE!!!!!!!!!
